STONE, Janis (nee Hern) passed away peacefully September 26, 2008 at the Rosedale Hospice in
Calgary at the age of 58 following a long, courageous battle with cancer. At her bedside were her loving husband Bob, her brother Alan Hern and daughters Colleen and Sean Friesen, and Carla and Jeff Miller.


Janis is survived by her mother Amy and her sister Trina and Rodney Kramer, Lori and Mike (Adam,
Brendan), Blair and Ann (Jonah, Benjamin). She is also survived by father-in-law Stan Stone Sr., Stan and Judy, Neal and Steven, Wendy and Dave (Hunter). Janis was predeceased by her brother Richard, father Jim, niece Sherry and mother-in-law Lillian. Janis was born at Kamsack, Saskatchewan and grew up on the family farm near Togo. Following graduation from high school in Kamsack, and always an active learner, Janis attended the University of Regina and Simon Fraser
University and over a period of many years convocated three times with degrees in Education, Administration, Political Science and Psychology. Janis taught elementary and high school and adult education for twenty years before assuming the role of Executive Director of the Saskatchewan Labour Force Development Board, a position she filled for ten years prior to retirement. A remarkable woman, Janis had unfailing strength and determination. Janis and her
family are grateful for the excellent care she received from the doctors and staff at the Tom Baker Cancer Centre and the Rosedale Hospice in Calgary. If friends so desire, it was Janis’ wish that memorial tributes be made to: Skills Canada Saskatchewan, 111B Robin Crescent, Saskatoon S7L 6M3 or any other charity of your choice.

A celebration of Janis’ Life will be held at Speers Funeral Home, 2136 College Avenue, Regina at 3:00 pm on Thursday October 2, 2008 with Pastor Bob Leeson officiating . An online book of condolences may be signed at www.speersfuneralchapel.com
