Skills Competitors Capture Gold - Provincial Skills Competition 2008Saskatoon, March 20, 2008 - The 10th Saskatchewan Skills Competition, presented by SaskPower was held in Saskatoon on March 13-15, 2008.  The event, which attracted over 350 high school, apprentice and technical institute competitors, showcased the expertise of tomorrow's expert tradespersons and promotes careers in trades and technologies.

 

"The mission of Skills Canada Saskatchewan is to promote skilled trades and technologies as a first-choice career option for youth in Saskatchewan," says Conrad E. Pura, Executive Director of Skills Canada Saskatchewan. "An event like this turns the spotlight on the best young trade and technology students from across the province."

 

Gold MedalGold, silver and bronze medals in over 40 competition areas were awarded in an Olympic-style ceremony on Friday March 14th, 2008 at Prairieland Park in front of over 600 guests.  Many of the gold medal winners are now part of Team Saskatchewan that will compete at the 14th Canadian Skills Competition in Calgary on May 25-28, 2008.

 

Venues for the 10th Saskatchewan Skills Competition included Marca College, Mount Royal Collegiate, Prairieland Park, SIAST Kelsey Campus and the SIIT Trades Training Centre.

 

Thank you to all of the hundreds of volunteers who made this event a huge success.
