The Team Canada Journey to WorldSkills Calgary 2009 has begun!

WeldingAs Canada's Member organization of WorldSkills International, Skills/Compétences Canada selects and prepares competitors for the international competitions that take place every two years.  The Team that will represent Canada at the 2009 WorldSkills Competition was selected at the 2008 Canadian Skills Competition on May 25 - 28, 2008 at Stampede Park in Calgary.

More than 30 successful Canadian competitors will become part of Team Canada.  They will be participating in at least 25 contest areas and will represent Canada at this prestigious international event that will involve more than 1000 competitors from 49 member countries. To help the Team Canada members prepare for the competition, a training program for their contest area will be designed and provided to them by the Canadian Expert and their progress will be monitored by a trainer.

The Team Canada Introductory Meeting for the Competitors, Experts, Trainers and Team Leaders will take place at the Westin Hotel in Ottawa from September 13 to 15, 2008.

R.D. Parker Collegiate's Evolving Aviation Program

The only thing certain in life is change. The aviation program at R.D. Parker Collegiate (RDPC) is certainly a proponent of that maxim. Since first appearing in AviNation in the Spring 2002 issue, the program instructors have been advancing change to meet student needs. In September 2001, RDPC opened a two-credit class that allowed students to train for a career in the aviation industry. The program started using CAMC's entire AMOP curriculum in May 2002. Start-up funding and a Piper Tomahawk provided through CAMC's Youth Internship Program (YIP) helped the course continue to grow. In November 2005 the school opened a brand new hanger, and in September 2006 RDPC hired Shane Clark to help the program fulfill its potential.
