Its time to gear up for SKILLS! The Saskatchewan showcase of teen talent for trades and technology is offering you a chance to show Canada what you can do. The 2009 event will take place in Regina’s Wascana Campus on April 2 and 3. Skills ranging from welding to hairdressing will be exhibited and tested. Gold medallists will earn an opportunity to go to the national event in Charlottetown, P.E.I. in May.
L.P. Miller always does very well at these events. In addition to
"bringing home the gold" our students get to meet industry level
experts and work with teens from all over the province that have
similar career goals. Many of our students have gone on to rewarding
careers in the skilled trades.

As always happens at this time of the year, we are looking for students
who are excited about developing their skills to a higher level. Are
you considering going to SIAST or apprenticeship?
SKILLS is an excellent way to discover these opportunities. Many of the
competition events have limited enrolment so it is always good to
register early. We are really looking for students to enter Workplace
Safety, Cooking, Baking, Webpage Design and IT Software Applications
(Microsoft Office). There are over 30 skills areas to enter. Please see

You never know where a SKILL will take you.
The Automotive Mechanics students at L.P. Miller will have a boxful of
extra incentive this year! Lyall Cook of Murray Dunn Motors and
May-Anne Hluchaniuk of NAPA presented the school with a huge toolbox
set.
This set will be presented as an achievement award to the most
dedicated Grade 12 Auto Mech student. Both local contributors stressed
that our town needs to encourage, train and keep our young local talent
at home. Mr. Cook emphasized that advances in automotive technology
have stretched the limits of many technicians. Recent advances in
training and apprenticeship opportunities have leveled the field for
our youth. Great jobs are waiting for them right here at Nipawin.
